Pocono Real Estate

Pocono Real Estate is an excellent investment. Pocono taxes and home prices are still less that that of New York and New Jersey; therefore, many people are moving to Monroe County to save a few dollars. Many sections of the Pocono’s are considered bedroom communities to New York City. In fact SmartMoney.com published an article about the top 5 places to invest in a vacation home and the Pocono’s came in number 2 on that list.

Location

The Pocono region contains Monroe County and parts of Pike, Carbon, Wayne, Luzerne, Lackawanna and Northampton Counties.  Pocono orginally described a geological region limited to the higher elevations of Monroe County but in recent years has been understood to be a much larger area.  In fact, there have been attempts to use it to describe an area in an adjoining state so the exact boundary depends on who you ask.

Accessability

The Poconos and Monroe County are crossed by Interstates 80, 84, 81 and 476 (the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike).  The area has always been a vacation home area for people from New York City, Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley and currently many people own Pocono homes and commute to New York, New Jersey and the Lehigh Valley.  There are several commuter bus lines serving New York with many runs each day and a new New Jersey Transit park and ride train station just opened on I-80 thirty miles into NJ.

For traveling by air, there are international airports located in the Lehigh Valley, Scranton, Newark, Philadelphia and at Stewart.

Landmarks

ESU, 70,000 acres Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, 7 state parks, 72,000 acres of state forests, golf courses, skiing, 105 lakes, 18 waterfalls, and 170 river miles.

Events

We have several new venues including the  Sherman Theater and Penn's Peak and a comedy club.  There are several minor league baseball teams and an AHL hockey team nearby.  We have two NASCAR races each year.

Schools

There are two colleges in Monroe county - East Stroudsburg University and the Monroe campus of Northampton County Community College - many others are located nearby in the Lehigh Valley and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area.  There are four school districts and the Monroe Career & Technical Institute is accessable by all students.

Pocono Real Estate Statistics

Needless to say, this thriving area has real estate which many say is a bargain especially compared to the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area. There are still real estate deals in this great mountain area but you need a local market expert to help you. Bev Waring is an experienced real estate professional who is a native of the Pocono area, overseeing more than $8,000,000 of real estate transactions.
